Many stories happened in that period. The Chinese coin-like logo adopted by Bank of China, and China Construction Bank is popular among the Chinese audience. They seem difficult to emulate in their effectiveness. To differentiate Bank of Beijing we wanted to make a breakthrough in the traditional shape used by Chinese bank in general. We developed more 100 logos. the winning proposal was created by one of our off duty designer, from the comfort of his home, free from office pressure. Over 9 years, his design went through 7 major bidding, and he finally won this one. This is the essence of Bang, more efforts, more pursuit, and more determination than anyone else.
The store-front design challenge
Bank of Beijing store-front design was interesting endeavor. Differences in terms of proportion, height, length, format and style are exceptionally varied depending on context. After a careful study, we developed a pragmatic system to guide the design for a wide majority of cases. This system saved a tremendous amount of money and production time for Bank of Beijing.
Interpretation
The red seal stand for the individual commitment and honor of traditional china. We added a modern element similar to an “@”, projecting a contemporary image of banking being part of the information age.
The logo is both dynamic and static, meaningful and abstract, comparable to the artful execution of a Chinese calligraphy.
The “B” sign stands for both “Bank” & “Beijing”. By refreshing its image Bank of Beijing has been freed from the old, tired public perception with a new face more suited to international, service-oriented commercial banks while maintaining brand consistency. The logo was awarded the “Design China Star 2005”.
Bank of Beijing ranked among the top 1000 global banks according to Bankers magazine in 2005. It jumped from 515th to 431st in terms of capital holder during that period ranking 164th among the top 200 Chinese enterprise and 9th among Chinese banks. At the time of this writing it is now the 339th of the top 500 strongest Chinese companies.
